The Afrika Festival Hertme has been running completely on volunteers for over 30 years. These are the real heroes of the festival!
The preparations
Every year in September, the working group Afrika Festival starts with the first preparations of the event that traditionally is being held in the first full weekend of July. The working group members each have their own responsibility, running from security to infrastructure and from the market to the programming. The group is responsible for the larger picture from where improvements are being discussed and new ideas are being introduced. Subcomitees further develop these ideas.
The construction week
In the week leading up to the festival all these preparations come together in the construction week. Fences are being placed, stalls erected, lighting and bars installed. Any possible task will be on the planning, since it's a dire necessity.
