Cheikh Lô returns to Afrika Festival Hertme
This year, the Afrika Festival Hertme welcomes Cheikh Lô, one of the most influential artists in Senegalese music history. The singer, percussionist and composer is known for his distinctive style, which combines West African traditions with influences from reggae, rumba and soul funk.
Cheikh Lô is no stranger to Hertme: he previously performed at the Afrika Festival in 2006. His return adds a special chapter to the festival's long history, which has always focused on international greats and innovators from Africa.
After a period of more than ten years without a new album, Maame was released in 2025. In this album, Cheikh Lô looks back on his musical roots and the rich history of African music. The songs are steeped in traditional rhythms and melodies, combined with a contemporary approach that has characterised his work for decades. Reviewers praise Maame for its careful production and the way it connects the past and the present. Cheikh Lô will perform at the Afrika Festival on Sunday 5 July.
