Sinaubi Zawose & Pamoja - Tanzania
Sina-Ubi Zawose was born in 1995 into the musical dynasty of the Zawose family, which belongs to the Gogo tribe living in and around Dodoma. He learnt music as a traditional dancer and ngoma player at the age of 10 under the guidance of his famous father, legendary Gogo musician Hukwe Ubi Zawose. It was Hukwe who was making roadside music when the newly-appointed president Nyerere was driving around the country in an open car. Nyerere made the car stop, listened to the wonderful music and invited him to start a music school in Bagamoyo on the coast. From then on, the Zawose family became world-famous. Creating bridges connecting past and present generations, Sina-Ubi delivers a new and unique blend of traditional and contemporary Gogo music and dance, with powerful messages sung in Swahili dialects and those of the Gogo tribe.
