Iteka Drummers - Rwanda/Burundi

The Iteka Drummers form a dynamic ensemble of highly talented artists dedicated to the preservation and presentation of the Burundian drumming tradition. Based in Rwanda, the group is a cultural program of the Iteka Youth Organization. Their mission is to promote Burundian cultural heritage, strengthen social cohesion, and provide career opportunities for young talent.

Although the group itself has only existed for a few years, it brings together experienced drummers from renowned cultural associations such as Ikiyago Legacy, Himbaza Club, Ijwi Culture, and Ikigabiro. The members have already participated in major international events, where they impressively showcased their skill and passion for this centuries-old art form.

The performances of the Iteka Drummers are a spectacular experience: powerful rhythms, perfectly synchronized movements, captivating vocals, and breathtaking acrobatics combine to create a truly impressive show. With incredible body control and stamina, they carry drums weighing up to 50 kilograms on their heads—while performing choreographies through dance. In this way, the Iteka Drummers actively contribute to the preservation of an important cultural heritage.
